The holidays are fast approaching and things seem to be getting more busy everyday.  Now is the time to take a few minutes for yourself and do something that will ensure you have a less-stress and more healthy holiday season.

Here are just a few things to do in the next week or two to get your mood, mind and body right for the holidays!

1. Start/Continue regular exercise.

If you are in a good routine, keep it up!  Don’t slow down or skip workouts when things get busy – change them to fit your needs.  If you need to shave a few minutes off a class to make it in time or shorten your run, go for it, but don’t skip it completely.  This will help you stay sane in this busy time.

If you aren’t in a regular routine, try to start one.  You don’t need to start with running for an hour in the chilly temps.  Start with a simple 10 minutes 3 mornings a week.  Do a circuit of body weight exercises to get your heart rate up and your muscles working. Start the habit – there is always room to make it longer or harder when you are ready!

2.  Master a quinoa dish.

Try a few quinoa recipes and figure out one that your family likes.  You can use it for easy to pack lunches, to take to a dinner party or holiday meal, or reheated for a quick dinner on the run.  It’s a great complete protein and it goes with anything!

3. Drink up.

I think it’s amazing what water can do for you!  Drink at least 8 glasses a day to stay hydrated when it’s getting cold and dry outside.  The best way to do it is to use a waterbottle that you can easily keep with you all day.  Try to fill a 32 oz. bottle at least twice a day and work your way to a gallon!

4. Make a soup and eat it all week.

I love to make a big batch of soup on Sunday or Monday and use it for lunches all week.  It’s fast and easy to reheat for a quick lunch or it’s easy to pair with a panini for dinner.  When you are getting sick of the everyday salad lunch, it’s an easy switch that still fills you up with veggies. Throw some lentils or lean meat in there for protein and you are good to go!

5. Plan a girls night

It can be anything.  From spa night in to a benefit or a little shopping trip.  Get together with friends and relax.  Discuss holiday ideas, talk about things to help each other and remember that this time of year is all about people – not things, decorations or presents.
