Often times at the gym we tend to head over to our favorite machine and do “the usual”. This week, challenge yourself to try a new machine. Have you been on the step mill or stair master lately. It may feel like a blast from the past but it’s a great way to change things and get your butt in gear! Try a hard 20 minute workout climbing stairs followed by another 20 minutes of jogging or ellipticalling.
Here is one option for a workout.
Start with the program on manual.
Time: 25 minutes, and follow these guidelines:
- 0-1 minutes at level 2
- 1-2 minutes at level 4
- 2-3 minutes at level 6
- 3-4 minutes at level 8
- 4-5 minutes at level 10
- 5-6 minutes at level 12
- 6-7 minutes at level 1
- 7-8 minutes at level 3
- 8-9 minutes at level 5
- 9-10 minutes at level 7
- 10-11 minutes at level 9
- 11-12 minutes at level 11
- 12-13 minutes at level 13
- 13-20 minutes at level 7
- 20-21 minutes at 9
- 21-22 minutes at 11
- 22-23 minutes at 9
- 23-24 minutes at 7
- 24-25 minutes at 5.
Then hop off and head to another cardio machine for another 20 minutes. It will feel like a break but you’ll still be working. Before you know it, you will have 45 solid minutes of cardio done.
I love this idea. I get into such a mindset where I have to just keep running. The other day I did a hill interval on the elliptical (which you commented on via twitter- thank you!) and wow was it ever a workout! Sometimes I think that I can only get a workout through running and that is definitely not true!
