I have really been enjoying making Anna’s baby food! There is a feeling of satisfaction I get when she likes it (and she likes everything so far…). Throughout the past few weeks of traveling, I have picked up a few jars of organic baby food for when we needed it, and it still surprises me how much money we are saving with me making Anna’s food.
1 store bought organic baby food jar – ~ about $1.00 (sometimes more, sometimes less)
2 cubes of homemade organic babyfood – ~ about $0.24 (depending on the veggie or fruit) – with no jar to have to dispose of (recycle)
For the baby food I made today I used Trader Joe’s frozen veggies.
Organic Red Kidney Beans
All I did was cook each of the veggies separately until they were very well cooked. Then I blended them in my food processor until there were no big chunks (a technical term. 🙂 ). When I feed Anna, I often mix together different fruits and veggies. For example, for lunch she had avocado, broccoli, bean mash. She loved it! Last night I gave her tofu for the first time too! 🙂
Let me know if you make your own baby food and what tips you have!
i think it’s awesome you make your own baby food! i’ll definitely be doing it when i have kids.
When I make peas, green beans, etc. (anything green) I set up a “shocking station” and once the veggies are cooked I let them sit in the ice and water for about a minute before I puree them. This makes the color turn to a bright green because the chlorophyll isn’t lost.
I really admire that you make all Anna’s food homemade. I hope
one day when I have a daughter or son that I can do the same!!
