I am still shocked by how fast each phase of motherhood is going. It’s weird to think that Anna has been around for as long as I was pregnant. I can’t even remember being pregnant and my life without her! I now understand how people say they don’t remember things about having their kids or how they handled certain situations. It is crazy.
I am also shocked that Anna is almost one. She is pulling herself up on things, cruising the furniture, and walking around with her walker. Her eating has also changed again. I didn’t really realize how short the pureed baby food stage is. From nursing from 0-6 months to pureed fruits and veggies at 6 months to little pieces of foods now. I am still giving her pureed fruits and veggies everyday because that way I know she is getting a certain amount of food, but she loves to feed herself. The downside of that is it’s impossible to know how much food she is getting when she feeds herself.
This is often the scene when I pick her up from eating. Not to mention her bib pocket is full and there is usually some food stuck to her clothes. 🙂
So right now I am doing a combination of pureed fruits and veggies with tiny pieces of food that she can pick up.
Unless we are visiting cousins, and in that case I have help with feeding Anna. 🙂
The pureed foods I am still loving to make are organic and either fresh or frozen. I still store them in ice cube trays for easy prep:
- green beans (frozen)
- spinach (fresh or frozen)
- broccoli (frozen)
- peas (frozen)
- butternut squash (fresh)
- sweet potato (fresh)
Here is a list of foods that Anna is loving to eat on her own right now:
- chickpeas (I remove the little clear casing and break them in half)
- black beans (she LOVES these)
- green beans ( I steam them an dice them into little pieces for her to pick up)
- sweet potato (diced)
- whole wheat toast (diced and dry)
- Cheerios
- freeze dried apples
- puffs
- avocado
- banana
- tofu- little pieces
- cantaloupe (diced into tiny pieces)
- pear (diced)
She is also loving whole milk organic yogurt!
Anna has 8 teeth already which help her to eat the pieces of food. Check with your doctor about foods that will be right for your baby.
The only thing I have found that she doesn’t like is egg yolk. Since egg whites have an allergy potential, they recommend waiting to give babies the whites. I tried the yolks twice – a hardboiled yolk – smushed with a little water and an egg yolk omlette – just cooked in the pan. She was not a fan.
You might be the best mom ever! No wonder she is so cute 🙂 are you going to raise her a vegetarian like you are?
We tried egg yolks around 6 months {we did baby-led weaning, so we went right to finger foods – no purees}, and Samuel had issues with them too. I have to believe it is a consistency thing. Someone told me to scramble the egg yolk with a tbs of milk, but I haven’t tried it yet. Thought I’d pass that along!
