This post was written last Sunday night, but I decided to hold off on posting it until this weekend when we have a chance to tell the a few more people we wanted to tell! 🙂
This morning we woke up to 30 degree temperatures. After much debate last night, we decided (I mean, I decided) we should do the run, despite the freezing temps.
We set the alarm for 6:00 am and got dressed appropriately – running pants from The North Face, a long sleeved Nike running shirt and a fleece running hoodie from Nike with hand holes plus gloves and a headband. While I sported this pretty normal cold weather running outfit, Brady decided to get creative. He wanted to wear shorts but he was afraid his legs would be cold so he made some leg warmers:
These creations were done by cutting the feet out of some old soccer socks. Apparently they worked well!
We headed out the door- luckily my parents were there to drive us and cheer us on along the way.
After a month of training for the full marathon, then a few months of secret keeping while continuing to train, Brady, and Baby H set out to do the 1/2 marathon! With Baby H almost 4 months old, I didn’t know how well I could handle 13.1 miles in 30 degree weather, but we did it!
The race wasn’t too bad! We never had to walk (probably because we stopped three times so I could go pee, which gave us a nice little break 🙂 and we kept up our pace throughout the whole thing. I saw one girl who had a sign on her back that said “Baby on Board” I chatted with her for a while when we were running together. She was about as far along as I am – I hadn’t thought of the sign thing, I hadn’t really thought about anything but staying warm when I got dressed in the morning.
After the race!
We finished the 13.1 miles in 2:20 – and that included 3 bathroom stops! I am blaming that on the baby. 🙂
New goal: Complete the full marathon next October, 6 months after having a baby. We will see if there is any chance that will ever happen 🙂
