If you have a young child not yet in school you are probably having a small panic attack about what you are going to do ALL winter long to keep them entertained, learning, busy and having fun.
You are not alone.
Here are a few ideas to add to your list!
1. Plan playdates
Find friends and neighbors with kids in similar age groups and take turns going to each other’s houses. It’s free and provides great entertainment for the moms as well as the kids. Plus kids love playing at new places and with different toys. You can even pack a lunch and play until just before nap time. One less sweep you have to do at your house when it’s not your day to host. Some of the best friendships are formed over playgroups.
2. Try a playground store.
Call around and see if the playground store near you offers Free Play or a small fee to play on their equipment. Cindy and I took the girls this week and they had a great time. You have to be a little careful because the playsets are big and there can be lots of kids running around. If you try this, make sure to wear clothes you can climb and play in!
3. Find seasonal activities.
Whether it’s a Christmas tree lighting or a Little Theatre Play, look in the local paper for activities going on nearby. Take advantage of special opportunities going on now! We went to a tree lighting on Friday night.
getting a cute picture was nearly impossible
4. 4. Plan crafts and games
Think of some crafts and games you liked as a kid and recreate them at home for your child. Even if they are young, they may enjoy the activity – plus, you will have something for your fridge.
5. Join a local mom’s group and go to their activities or make field trips for yourself.
Check to see if there is an opportunity for you to be a part of a mom’s group that plans things to do in the area. If not, make up some field trips for your kids and their friends. Take a trip to the fire station, find a children’s museum or visit a local orchard or farm!
Oh my gosh, cutest pictures ever! These are great ideas, and not just for kids…I love going to tree lightings and/or scoping out neighborhood Christmas lights. Preferably with a steaming mug of hot chocolate in hand 🙂
