This snow is really cramping my running style. I can’t justify taking Anna out in 14* degree weather, nor can I run when it’s 14 degrees outside. I have been taking her to the gym a few times a week but it’s hard to coordinate with her naps, eating and play time. She is also going through a little separation, so unless she is fed, well rested and ready to play, she has potential to have a melt down. This cuts my workout short and worse then that, makes me feel super guilty. (I am saving the mom guilt post for another day, but it is unbelievable!)
So today I decided to workout at home. I started the day with my workout clothes on because that automatically increases my chance of getting a workout in. Then, when Anna went down for her morning nap, I got started.
Some people would same I am crazy (they have a point) but I really will be crazy if I don’t workout all winter (right, Brady?). So here is what I did. It was a good workout that burned 500 calories (I wear my HRM for most of my workouts, especially when I make them up so I can get a gauge on how I am working!)
0:00 – 15:00 – warm up. This for me meant running around my house. Since our house is not very open, I had to run up and down the stairs, from the basement to the second floor – I could have gone to the third floor but I am not that crazy…haha (or I am just saving that for another day!)
15:00 – 45:00 – Jillian’s Last Chance Workout (on Demand) This is a great workout that combines strength moves with dumbbells and cardio intervals. I was sweating.
45:00 – 48:00 – Got Anna, who had woken up from her mini nap, and put her in the exersaucer to watch me jump around like a fool. I could have stopped the workout then because it was already pretty good, but I kept going because she was enjoying it.
48:00 – 55:00 – Practiced the class I am going to start teaching in January with moves like: jumping jacks, push ups, mountain climbers, knee raises and some kickboxing.
55:00 – 59:00 – Stretched out.
This may seem a little nuts, but I promise it is worth it! I feel great now and I got a great workout in without leaving my home or feeling guilty. The mom guilt really is crazy.
How do you workout in the winter? How do you deal with mom guilt when it comes to “me time”? Help! 🙂
Another form of working out at my house has been dragging Anna around in her new sled that is a Christmas present! Do you think she will remember that she has already seen it?! This will be the last year I can get away with this!
Awww, Anna is so adorable!! Have you ever thought about having her model?
Great work out! I definitely recommend a variety of workout DVDs for the winter–I’ve finally collected enough that I can go a few weeks without any repeats. Jillian’s Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD is awesome, and so are Bob Harper’s new DVDs–they are so incredibly hard (in a good way!). I’m such a wimp about the cold, so working out from the comfort of the living room definitely works for me in this weather 🙂
Some people call me crazy, too – that’s normal, right?? 🙂
I try to get my workouts in whenever I can. The past few days have been a little crazy so I will at least do pushups and core work before bed. Everything little thing counts!
I don’t blame you one bit, taking Anna out in the bitter cold isn’t good for anyone. I love your at home workout! Uh it never occurred to me to run stairs in my own home and now I’m totally going to do it! Nice workout girl!
