When my mom was here on Wednesday we made two batches of strawberry jam. Homemade strawberry jam is one of our family’s favorite foods. We go through tons of it, especially on weekends we get together. So in preparation for Baby H’s arrival and a stream of visitors, we had to stock up.
Step 1: Buy lots of delicious fresh strawberries (we usually make tons of jelly after we go strawberry picking in the summer). Wash the berries and trim their stems.
Step 2: Cut the berries into small pieces and chop them or put them into a food processor and pulse. We used a food processor, but if you do, make sure you don’t chop it too smooth.
Step 3: Buy the “No Sugar Needed Sure Jell” and follow the directions given.
Step 4: Boil Sure-Jell, water and sugar together, as directed on package.
Step 5: Add the berry puree to the Sure-Jell mixture and put it in clean mason jars.
Step 6: Cover jars with lids and let them set on the counter for 24 hours before putting them in the freezer.
Yum! I have already started using it for my breakfast this morning. A whole wheat English muffin with pb, jam, strawberries, bananas, and some ground flax!
The plan for the weekend is to keep relaxing and going out. 🙂 We had a great dinner tonight at Spagio with John and Ash. We are looking forward tomorrow night when we go out with friends to Marcella’s!
When do you think Baby will be here? I am thinking not for a while….
Yum!! Love strawberries…
I hope your baby comes before 42 weeks!! 🙂 Have you had any “practice” contractions? I’m hoping the contractions I have had since Wednesday night are meaning I’m getting closer…
That jam looks great!! Did you add any sugar? The directions you wrote out said to add sugar, but didn’t say how much. I would love to try to make this. YUM!!
Thanks!
Yummy! Fun little tutorial–I’d have to say strawberries are one of my favorite summer fruits!
