After a fun night out in the Mission at Lolo (a recap coming tomorrow), we woke up early on Saturday and headed out for a run in Berkeley. After we did 5 sweaty and scenic miles, we came home to shower and head to Sonoma for a day of wine tasting and hiking. Followed by dinner at the much awaited Girl & the Fig.
Our first stop was to the Bartholomew Park and Winery.
We started out on what we thought was a stroll in the woods. The path was marked as a hiking trail but Kevin and Linds had been there before and thought it was more of a walk than a hike. I debated on wearing my flats but decided to put on tennis shoes at the last minute.
It was a good thing I did because our adventure was anything but a walk in the park. We went up and down a mountain or two through a small path in the woods. While it wasn’t difficult, it was much more challenging than we expected.
There were a few points where we moved carefully over big rocks and crossed a few streams on a string of rocks.
And not only did we underestimate the hike, we really underestimated the heat. When we left the city it was in the mid-60’s and so we dressed in jeans and shirts. Mid hike we checked the temp to find it was over 80 degrees. There was some pant rolling and pop-tops that took place.
By the time we got down, 3 miles later, we were all ready for water and wine.
We did a tasting at Bartholomew Park and enjoyed their 5 local varieties.
Then we bought a chilled bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and took it out to our picnic.
We tried out Kevin and Linds’ new chairs and picnic table set.
And drank our wine in mason jars we brought.
Our spread was pretty fantastic as well. In Sonoma, when we ate lunch, we picked up a block of local Mediterranean cheese to go with our other goodies: hummus, carrots, wheat thins, cherry tomatoes and pretzel thins.
With good wine, good food, good company and a good view, it was a great situation.
After our bottle was gone, we packed up the picnic and headed to Ravenswood winery, down the street. We had heard it was a good one to stop at, and we weren’t disappointed.
We actually like the wine a lot better here and had fantastic service.
The winery was also beautiful!
From here we headed to dinner at The Girl & The Fig. A full review on our fabulous dinner will be up soon!
