Saturday was an exciting day! We celebrated Addie’s 3rd birthday with a fun, colorful, polka dot party!

Cindy and Tom did a great job with the party! They set up stations in the back yard with cutely-labeled signs for each different activity.

The signs were pieces of wood painted with chalkboard paint and clearly marked! So cute!

One of the stations was planting flowers. Each child at the party had a pot marked with their initial. They were able to plant their flower and take it home as the favor! So much better than a bag of candy!

The kids loved running around kicking the beach balls, playing with the hula hoops and getting into anything that was near them!

For decoration:

Large mason jars were labeled with an A for Addie and a piece of ribbon. Each mason jar contained brightly colored gerber daisies.

The food:

In an effort to keep little dirty hands out of any sort of dip, the appetizers were simple. Goldfish, bite-sized pieces of pizza and pretzels/crackers were strategically placed outside. But with everything there was to do, no one was slowing down enough to eat.

Until dinner was served that is. Dinner was a taco bar!

Laura’s lean ground beef started the dinner bar.

On your choice of whole wheat or regular tortilla.

Then, cilantro + lime rice (recipe).

And GFS’s shredded iceberg lettuce.

Followed by a vegetarian lover’s dream of toppings.

From black beans, to roasted corn.

From shredded cheese to light sour cream.

From fresh guac to diced tomatoes.

And a large bowl of fabulous salsa.

As if that wasn’t enough, when you came around the corner of the table you were greeted with this huge bowl of fruit. (Which had to be refilled more than once during the party. It was as good as it looks!)

Chips to top things off!

And a large “healthy” mac + cheese for those under 3 ft. tall. Any many others.

Cake was the obvious choice for dessert.

I made a double layer, double decker cake with 4 layers. (Recipe will post later today!) For the polka dots, we heated Jolly Rancher Chews and cut them with shot glasses and playdough toys.

Cupcakes for kids.

And smiles for everyone!
