.)    Utilize the Neighborhood Swimming Pool: If you are from the East Coast, you are all-too familiar with how special it is to have the luxury of a swimming pool during the summer months. Rather than letting the refreshing feeling of the cool water go to waste, get a little wet while you workout. A no-brainer is taking a few laps around the pool, but for a full body workout and to put those pool toys to good use, try out the following exercise:

Pool Plank: Stand on the pool floor. Hold a noodle vertically in both hands. Press it straight down into the water and lean forward until your body is on an even incline. (Your head stays out of the water.) Try to keep yourself stable for 1-2 minutes.

.)    Take Your Workout Indoors: Once temperatures creep above 90 degrees, you want to start taking even more precautions while working out. Instead of taking a run outside, move your workout indoors. At home fitness programs, like DailyBurn.com, still provide the intense workout you are looking for through online streaming videos and with an added bonus of having a certified fitness trainer guiding you along and keeping you motivated.

.)    Don’t take a Hike, Climb a Wall: Instead of taking a hike through the woods or to the top of a mountain, try a rock-climbing class instead. You will both beat the heat by staying indoors and enjoy the challenge you would encounter on that mountain-trail. Classes can go for as low as $10 and can be a fun way to get fit with friends. To find classes in your area, do a quick Google search or ask someone at your local gym or fitness center.

.)    Rise and shine: Summer is a great time to form a new habit of working out in the mornings. The sun is up and the early morning temperatures usually don’t pose any dangerous health risks. Exercising in the morning is also a way to enjoy some peace and quiet before your kids wake up or your colleagues start sending those emails. So instead of that grueling after work workout, hit the pavement even before those early birds catch the worm!

.)    Stick to Low-Key Workouts: Rather than your usual sweat-inducing exercise, stick to something that is a little less strenuous and a lot safer for the summer. Yoga, Pilates, and even tai-chi still help maintain a healthy body and also require little equipment as well as have added benefit of helping you stay Zen and stress-free.
